First Scorpion Venom Exchange

Leiurus quinquestriatus, crude whole venom

This is the world's first exchange for scorpion venom. It opened on 1 August 2026, and before it there was nowhere to look up what this material costs.

Buyers of research biologicals work from a quote they cannot compare against anything, because nobody in this trade publishes a price. We put ours in the open instead: one price per gram for crude whole venom of Leiurus quinquestriatus, moving with supply, demand and the euro against the Egyptian pound, with the volume pricing derived from it.

Ordering

Orders are priced at the moment you send them: the number above is the one you order at. The order page carries the current price and works out the total as you enter the quantity.

What is quoted

Yellow Mediterranean scorpion, Leiurus quinquestriatus

Crude whole venom from the north-African population of Leiurus quinquestriatus, origin Aswan, Egypt. The material is the complete secretion, unfractionated and without additives, carriers or preservatives: lyophilised powder in sealed vials, split into aliquots on request.

L. quinquestriatus is the source of chlorotoxin, charybdotoxin, the agitoxins and the scyllatoxin family, and is used in antivenom production and in ion-channel and tumour-targeting research. There is more on the material, its extraction and its handling on the scorpion venom page.

Supplied for laboratory research and manufacturing use only. This is not a medicinal product and is not intended for human or veterinary administration.

Documentation

The product sheet, a lot-specific certificate of analysis and the safety data sheet are issued with each quote. Published copies will be linked here as they are released.

L. quinquestriatus is not listed under CITES, and the venom is not classified as hazardous under Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008. Export from Egypt and import into the destination territory remain subject to the applicable customs and biological-material controls.

Questions we get asked

How does an order actually work?

Send the order request below with the quantity, the destination country and the intended use. We reply with a formal quote at the price shown when you sent it, together with a proforma invoice covering freight and documentation. The order is confirmed once you accept the proforma and payment terms are agreed. We then allocate the lot, issue the paperwork and book the shipment.

Which price applies to the order?

The one on the page when you send your request. Pricing is at the time of enquiry, so what you see is what you order at, and we hold that quote for five working days. A later move does not change a price you have already been given.

Why does the price move?

Supply and demand, and the exchange rate. Extraction is seasonal and the yield per animal is small, so the price tracks what we can actually supply against what is being asked for, rather than a list we set once a year. On top of that we produce in Egyptian pounds and publish in euro, so the published number moves with the conversion as well. Your order volume then decides which bulk discount applies.

Will I get the compliance documents?

Yes. Every shipment carries a lot-specific certificate of analysis (species, origin, extraction period, lyophilised mass and protein content), the safety data sheet, a commercial invoice and packing list, and a certificate of origin. A written non-CITES statement and an end-use confirmation are issued on request, and we will complete a customer-supplied end-user declaration if your institution requires its own form.

Who is responsible for import permits?

You are. The customer is the importer of record and holds whatever authorisation applies at destination for biological material of animal origin; no Incoterm transfers that. We handle export clearance from Egypt and will tell you what has been accepted on previous shipments to your market, but we cannot hold your permit for you. Tell us the destination early and we will scope it before quoting.

Who arranges shipping, and how does it travel?

Default terms are ex works Cairo. CIP to your destination airport, DAP and DDP are quoted on request, and you can nominate your own courier account instead. The venom ships as a lyophilised powder by air courier and is stable in transit at ambient temperature; cold-chain packing with temperature logging is available if your incoming-goods procedure requires it.

What is the lead time?

Up to 10 g ships from stock where available, otherwise within four to six weeks. Larger quantities are scheduled against the extraction programme: 100 g is planned over several months and quoted with a delivery schedule rather than a single date. Add your own incoming inspection and customs clearance on top.

What is the minimum order, and how is it paid?

Half a gram. First orders are paid in advance by bank transfer; established accounts move to part payment on order and the balance before dispatch. Letters of credit are accepted for volumes at the 100 g break.

Can I trade or hedge this price?

No. This is a published reference price for physical material we deliver. There is no contract to trade, no clearing and no settlement. We publish the price so that both sides work from the same number instead of negotiating in the dark.
